iKON Bobby gave insights into the making of his new solo album!
An online conference was held on January 25th to celebrate the release of the artist’s second full-length solo album “LUCKY MAN” with the title track “LUCKY MAN”. “Bobby participated as lyricist, composer and producer on all of the tracks on the album. This is also Bobby’s first solo album in three years and four months since the 2017 album “LOVE AND FALL”.
At the conference, Bobby commented: “I feel good to be able to present new songs. I’ve been working on music all the time. I’m nervous and excited to finally reveal them. He added that he had used songs he had written in the past as well as written new tracks and said, “The most important thing was to have a story that people could find relatable. With the playlist and the In the lyrics, I made sure to make them as “bobby-like” as possible, focusing on keeping the listener curious about the next song while listening to all of the tracks”.
Bobby went on to explain the album, “I used the phrase ‘LUCKY MAN’ to express the fact that in my 20s I can go through various emotions such as sadness and joy. I tried to express the joy and sorrow that young people can feel in their lives. To represent a wider range, the album has both a strong and a strong side, but also a softer side than the previous album. “When asked about his” happiest moment “, Bobby replied with a smile:” I think being born the son of my mother and father was the happiest. I hope you are proud. ”
The title track “U MAD” was written with the hope that everyone who hears the song can get plenty of energy. The addicting choir uses a melody that is easy on the ear. The song serves as a critique of those who follow materialism and opportunism, but it is also based on an anger at one’s weakened self.
Bobby said, “I wrote this song for a weak me. Anyone who hears it will say that it is an energetic song. But it also feels like making fun of you by jokingly asking, “Hey, are you crying?” I didn’t write it because I thought it was the title track, but it eventually became the title track because it’s full of energy and powerful. He also said, “My image is intense and charismatic and I think ‘U MAD’ shows that well. My rap style is rough and I have a screaming rap style. I think the song brings out those elements well . ”
The titles of the songs are also interesting. Bobby explained, “I’ve put together titles that would pique your curiosity. It’s a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters. For ‘Ur SOUL Ur Body’, I thought ‘soul’ was more important than ‘body’ so I decided to capitalize it. ”
Bobby’s bandmates also took part in the album. iKON’s Donghyuk in “Ur SOUL Ur BodY” and Junhoe in “RaiNinG”.
I shared, “Members have often helped review my work while I was working on the album. I was grateful when they referred to things without my having to explain. The song Junhoe featured in was one I worked on when I was feeling bad. Even when I hear it now, I look back on those times and get emotional. Junhoe was very sympathetic to me. The chemistry with Donghyuk has been great so working with him has been a fun process. ”
In 2014, Bobby won the third season of Mnet’s “Show Me The Money”. Seven years have passed and Bobby commented, “I was very confident having won the title at such a young age. I was sure that I could do anything. But as time passed and I went through different situations, I learned that it is important to be humble. This realization kept me going. ”
Bobby also stated that as a member of iKON, Bobby is different from Bobby as a solo artist. I said: “I feel comfortable and at ease in the group. Members also help replenish the music. But as a solo artist I have to fill up three minutes alone. In the end, I think deeper about how to fill this time. ”
Bobby also commented, “Because I write music in the hope that others will hear it, I consider the element ‘mainstream’. But I also think about how to express my thoughts well. I think it’s somewhere in between. “He said,” I’m never entirely satisfied with my work. I think about improvements in this and that every time I listen to it. I try to strike a middle ground. ”
As a final comment, Bobby added, “I try to live with the attitude that I give 100 percent every day because hard work will never betray you.”
