On January 27th, the Korea Music Copyright Association (KOMCA) announced the songwriters promoted to full members this year!
KOMCA is a not-for-profit copyright collective that aims to improve the music culture in Korea by protecting the intellectual property rights of copyright owners while ensuring ease of use for listeners. Founded in 1964, the organization maintains a database of copyrighted works and their intellectual property owners.
Any copyright holder can join KOMCA as a “junior member”, but the Board of Directors selects only 25 junior members each year to achieve “full member” status. 22 members are selected from the mainstream category while the remaining three are selected from the non-mainstream category.
The requirements for promotion to full member include maintaining KOMCA junior membership for three years or more, receiving a certain amount of royalties per year from their proprietary property, and being selected by the Board of Directors. When you become a full member of KOMCA, an artist has the right to vote at the general meetings of the organization.
