In the recent episode of “Yoo Hee Yeol’s Sketchbook“, the singer-songwriter NIve talked about how he ended up composing songs together with V from BTS.
NIve appeared as a guest on the KBS 2TV music talk show broadcast on January 8th, which the host was on Yoo hee yeol put forward his impressive track record as a producer. “You have worked with artists like HYNN, Paul Kim, EXO, Sam Kim, Park Bo chewing gumand also BTS ”, emphasized Yoo Hee Yeol. “How did you get into BTS?”
NIve, co-writer and co-producer of BTS’s hit b-side “Blue & Gray” (from their latest album “BE“) Explained with V that they had connected through their mutual friend Paul Kim.
“We happened to be working on the song together,” said NIve, whose first name is Park Ji Soo on BTS’s album. “I wrote the music and lyrics for Paul Kim’s song ‘The Reason for My Spring’, and I think Paul Kim played that song for BTSs V. After Taehyung or V heard the song, he said, ‘I really want to meet the person who wrote this song, no matter what’”.
“So we met for the first time,” he recalled, “and because we had a good musical chemistry, we wrote a number of songs together afterwards. One of these songs eventually made it onto the BTS album. It’s a song called ‘Blue & Gray’. ”
Yoo Hee Yeol laughed jealously: “I want to have good chemistry with V too.”
Yoo Hee Yeol went on to make the success of “Blue & Gray” that debuted ranked # 2 on Billboard’s US Digital Song Sales chart and remained in the top 10 for two consecutive weeks.
When he asked NIve to sing a bit of “Blue & Gray” in his own voice, the artist humbly replied, “I thought you might ask that, and I had never sung the song live so I practiced it [before I came here today]. And it turned out that it was really hard to sing. As I was practicing the song, I thought to myself, ‘Wow, [the BTS members] did a really great job singing this song while recording. ‘”
