Twitter and the most-tweeted K-pop accounts of 2020

On December 8th, Twitter published an analysis of the accounts and tweets of users from around the world in 2020. Together with the hashtag “This Happened”, Twitter published a ranking of the most frequently tweeted K-Pop accounts worldwide in 2020.

This year, Bts (@BTS_twt) became the most tweeted account, the most tweeted K-pop account and the most tweeted musician account worldwide. As of 2017, this is the fourth year in a row that BTS has become the most tweeted account.

BTS also ranked # 2 on the list of the most retweeted tweets. The post at Jungkook cover photo von Lauv’s “Never Not” has a total of 35 million views, 1.6 million retweets and 3 million hearts. This is the most frequently retweeted tweet after the tweet of Chadwick Boseman’s death.

Among the K-pop-related tweets, the top five tweets with the most likes came from BTS ‘Twitter account. First up is a post from BTS’s V that shared “Hi Army” along with two photos that received 3.2 million likes.

Second and third are Jungkook’s cover video tweets, and fourth is a post from BTS expressing their joy with ARMY at being the first Korean artist above Billboard’s Hot 100. # 5 is a post RM wrote to celebrate his birthday.

The second most popular K-Pop account worldwide is EXO (@weareoneEXO). EXO’s Suho and Kai caught a lot of attention this year when they announced theirs alone activities. In March, Suho hosted a Twitter Blueroom live to celebrate his solo promotions, and the tweet announcing Kai’s solo debut received 310,000 likes and 140,000 retweets.

In third place is the most tweeted K-Pop accounts worldwide BLACKPINK (@BLACKPINK). The group also ranked 7th among the most tweeted musicians worldwide. After BLACKPINK in the list of the most frequently tweeted K-Pop accounts is SEVENTEEN (@ pledis_17) at No. 4, Got7 (@ Got7Official) at No. 5, NCT 127 (@ NCTsmtown_127) at No. 6, TXT (@TXT_members) at No. 7, ATEEZ (@ATEEZofficial) at No. 8, TREASURE (@treasuremembers) at No. 9 and Stray children (@Stray_Kids) at No. 10.

According to an analysis of the keywords mentioned, the top 10 musicians worldwide were BTS in 1st place and BLACKPINK in 7th place. Together with the two groups, Kanye West is in 2nd place, Beyoncé in 3rd place and Rihanna in 4th place, no.5 Justin Bieber, no 6 Cardi B, No. 8 Drake, No. 9 Ariana Grande, and No. 10 Taylor Swift.

At the beginning of September this year, Twitter and K-Pop Radar shared one analysis about K-Pop data with tweets created for 10 years worldwide revealing a # KpopTwitter 2020 world map. According to the data, a total of 6.1 billion K-pop-related tweets were created last year. The data also included graphs depicting the change in K-pop around the world, lists of the most mentioned K-pop artists, fastest growing K-pop artists, and more.
