Immediately after his last military discharge Lee Gikwang from Highlight posed for Singles Magazine!
Talking about the change in his lifestyle after joining the military, he said, “After living a dynamic life, it felt uncomfortable to live such a rule-based, planned life and like I had lost all my energy. However, it became a time to think about myself. Although it wasn’t a dramatic change, I think my attitude and thought process in life has changed a bit.”
He continued, “I’ve thought a lot about how special my career was, not myself as a person. While I am a celebrity in a place a lot of people recognize me, the military is not such a place. Having such a special job made me want to work even harder after I was laid off. ”
As the highlight recently celebrated its 11th debut anniversary, the interviewer asked whether the members had congratulated each other. Lee Gikwang laughed and replied, “There was nothing special. Just “You did well.” What we talk about among each other is always the same. That we want to go on tour when COVID-19 is over. I think that must have been the happiest memory for all of us. I miss preparing for our concerts, meeting our fans on stage and meeting our staff after the concert. ”
Lee Gikwang gave a similar response when asked what he would most like to do after his release if it weren’t for the pandemic. I replied: “A highlight concert. We basically set our own plans. Yoseob, Dongwoon and I have experience with solo concerts, but only Doojoon Not. Personally, I found it so unfortunate. So we wanted Doojoon to do a solo concert as soon as he was released so that we as a group could do a year-end concert and then start an overseas tour. ”
Although he wasn’t too active on social media during his military service, Lee Gikwang still uploaded a song he wrote on his SoundCloud and sent letters to fans. He commented, “The song I put on SoundCloud is a song I wrote and performed at my last solo concert. I wrote it as a gift to fans who had to wait a year and seven months for me. ”
Regarding the letters, Lee Gikwang said, “The letters weren’t a big deal to be honest, but because my fans liked them so much I was excited and kept writing them. While this is obvious, I am always grateful to my fans. You are like a tree that never stops giving. I still don’t know how they like, wait, support and love us, but I find it really amazing that they can give someone so much love and support and express that. ”
