The actor spoke fondly of his TVN drama “Start-Up” which was just airing Season finale earlier this week. “The set was always full of laughter, so I think I’ll remember that for a long time,” he noted.
Nam Joo Hyuk said the cast got along exceptionally well behind the scenes: “I think our great chemistry on set was captured perfectly in the drama. Many of the actors were about the same age, so we could wrap ourselves up in the drama in a warm, friendly atmosphere while constantly sharing our opinions. ”
Regarding the similarities and differences between his character Nam Do San and his real personality, Nam Joo Hyuk shared, “In real life, I’m almost the exact opposite of [Nam Do San]. I am a right-brained person who enjoys communicating with and empathizing with others. ”
“However,” he added, “I have a lot to do with Do San’s courage to get things done no matter what.”
Nam Joo Hyuk also spoke about his latest fantasy drama “The school nurse’s files, “Comment”, “Until [‘The School Nurse Files’]I hadn’t had many opportunities to physically transform myself [for a role]but the character [of Hong In Pyo] allowed me to satisfy that urge. I hope to have the opportunity to play these different roles in the future too. ”
Nam Joo Hyuk shared his thoughts on his new film “Josée”, a remake of the Japanese film “Josee, the Tiger and the Fish”. In particular, the film marks the reunion of Nam Joo Hyuk and Han Ji Minwho previously starred in the hit drama “Radiant. ”
“I felt a lot of pressure and worry because the film is a remake,” admitted Nam Joo Hyuk. “But I was curious what a ‘Josée’ from director Kim Jong Kwan would look like, and I wanted to be a source of strength for the film.”
When asked if he had hoped to outdo the original, the actor replied, “If I had had such ambitions, I would not have been able to act properly at all. The only thing I thought about was that I had to do a good job portraying the character of Young Suk in the film. ”
Finally, Nam Joo Hyuk revealed that whenever he needs to recharge himself mentally or emotionally, he turns to an old email his mother wrote before his debut as an actor.
“”[My growth as an actor] This was thanks to an email my mother sent back to me when I was a basketball player, ”he said. “When I made a fresh start as an actor, I reread my mom’s email to get myself in the mood, and when I’m exhausted I reread it to regain my strength.”
