Shin Hyun Joon was not charged in the libel suit brought against him by his former manager “Kim”.
Shin Hyun JoonThe site issued a response after a former manager alleged the actor abused him.
In July, Kim Gwang Seob, former manager of Shin Hyun Joon and former director of Shin Hyun Joon’s current agency HJ Film, alleged in interviews that he was ill-treated by Shin Hyun Joon while working with them. Hyun Joon refuted these claims and announced possible legal action against Kim.
Kim then filed a request with the police, asking them to re-investigate a claim that Shin Hyun Joon used propofol illegally in 2010. In response, Hyun Joon specified that he had already been examined on the propofol he was given while he was being treated for his injured back in a hospital. The police in August dismiss The request for re-investigation because the incident occurred before Propofol was classified as a medicinal product and also because the statute of limitations had already expired.
Both Kim and Shin Hyun Joon sued for defamation. On November 9, the Seoul Northern District Procuratorate issued a “no charge” verdict against Shin Hyun Joon in the libel suit against him.
Shin Hyun Joon stated of his legal representative:
Hello, this is actor Shin Hyun Joon.
At a time when everyone is suffering from the coronavirus, I am sorry that I was concerned about these personal events.
I felt it was right to inform you that on November 9, 2020, the Seoul Northern District Procuratorate ruled that the “not guilty” libel lawsuit against me will not be indicted.
As previously disclosed, on July 27, 2020, the Gangnam Police Station denied Kim’s request to investigate me for alleged use of propofol, as no illegal activity could be detected in the alleged incident against me.
Through this research, it was found that Kim’s claims about propofol and abuse were all false.
The libel suit I filed against Kim is still being investigated, and we will continue our efforts to ensure that he takes legal responsibility for his false claims.
There has been great concern that I will be giving up broadcasts and public activities because of this incident, but I use this time for serious self-reflection.
I will work to come back to everyone with a more mature and upright image. I will always remember the people who trusted me and cheered me on. Many thanks.
