“Tale of the Nine-Tailed” is a fantasy-action-romantic drama that stars Lee Dong Wook than the male gumiho (a mythical nine-tailed fox) Lee Yeon and Jo Bo Ah as producer Nam Ji Ah trying to find her lost parents. Lee Yeon and Nam Ji Ah get involved in a mysterious case with Imoogi (Lee Tae Ri), a snake animal in human form.

The drama made fans want more last week when Episode 10 ended with an intense scene in which Imoogi made Lee Yeon an offer: He’ll let everyone survive if Lee Yeon just gives him his body.

This was far from the first time the show featured such a memorable final scene. In particular, there were three episodes that ended with moments that served as key points in the story of Lee Yeon and Nam Ji Ah’s romance that fans craved for more. All three endings showed a similar line but very different emotions. Relive them below!

1. A fall and tension: “I’ve been waiting for you.”

The show made a big first impression on viewers with its premiere, and that included the powerful ending to the episode. After Nam Ji Ah realized that Lee Yeon was not human, she dropped off his balcony to confirm his true identity and provoked him by taking a USB with footage showing his supernatural powers. Lee Yeon saved her by catching her in the air.

While he was angry with the way Nam Ji Ah tested him, she said to him, “I’ve been waiting for you.” She then injected him down the throat with a syringe and viewers made sure to prepare for the next episode to see what happened next to this couple.

2. The fox pearl and the heartache: “I’ve been waiting for you too.”

Lee Yeon thought that Nam Ji Ah could be the reincarnation of his first love, Ah Eum, who died 600 years ago because they both look the same and his hypnosis on Nam Ji Ah hadn’t worked. He used his powers on the island to kill the shaman and save Nam Ji Ah from becoming a human sacrifice, which resulted in his being punished by the underworld. When Lee Yeon sensed that Nam Ji Ah was in danger when she met Lee Rang (Kim Bum) At a funeral he tried to escape the underworld by a deadly route. After finding out, he rescued Nam Ji Ah from the ghosts that haunted her and then collapsed bloody from his close escape.

Nam Ji Ah ran to Lee Yeon and held him in her arms. He pleaded with tears: “Please don’t die … don’t die because of me.” This activated Lee Yeon’s Fox Pearl and confirmed that Nam Ji Ah is the reincarnation of Ah Eum. When Lee Yeon saw this, he said, “I … I’ve been waiting for you too,” and smiled through tears.

3. A reunion and romance: “I’ve been waiting for you.”

Lee Yeon and Nam Ji Ah were forced apart by a misunderstanding after Nam Ji Ah looked back at their previous lives, but they missed each other very much. Nam Ji Ah then fell into the trap of the vicious Eodugsini who worked with Imoogi, and she was in her parents’ car 21 years ago just before the accident. Trapped in a dream, she eventually managed to get out by following Lee Yeon’s advice. Lee Yeon also suffered from his own nightmare, but he was able to eliminate the Eodugsini and deliver a warning to Imoogi.

When Lee Yeon returned to reality, he was standing in the rain with his signature red umbrella, and Nam Ji Ah ran across the street to hug him and say, “I’ve been waiting for you.” Then they deepened the romance with a kiss in the rain.
